Sunday Jazz at Whighams
Our famed jazz club was started back in March 2009 by two friends – local jazz musician Kevin Dorrian and jazz enthusiast Graeme Knox, regularly welcoming a crowd that reaches well into three figures every week. It has become one of the leading weekly jazz club’s in the UK – continually attracting some of the biggest names in jazz from around Scotland, the rest of the UK and Internationally. We’ve featured a raft of styles from the ‘Golden Age’ jazz of the early 20th century, Dixieland, Gypsy Jazz, West Coast, Be-Bop and of course some fantastic re-workings of The Great American Songbook.
A £5 cover charge per person is applicable for Jazz performances. This insures we can continue to support live music on a weekly basis.
All times 7-9:15 unless otherwise stated.

The Fiona Ross Trio
A second appearance at Whighams for London-based Vocalist/Pianist Fiona Ross. She’s a multi-award-winning jazz artist and founder of the award-winning Women in Jazz Media organisation. As a vocalist, pianist, composer and producer, Fiona has become known for creating her own contemporary jazz sound incorporating fast paced Latin Jazz, vintage Jazz and a little neo soul along with heart wrenching ballads. We’re delighted to have her back this evening along with her usual sidemen Derek Daley (bass) and Loren Hignell (sax)
15th
Seton Shoals
East Lothian-based drummer Dave Hunter’s elegant and sophisticated Seton Shoals places much emphasis on jazz-tinged funk n’ soul – think The Crusaders, Randy Crawford, George Benson, Yellowjackets, etc and you get a sense of the verve and the deep-in-the pocket rhythmic jousting created between Dave, Steve Grossart on keys, Iain Harkness on electric bass, Robin Robertson on guitar, plus the tantalising vocal of Shonagh Dunbar. It’ll be a fabulous funky evening!!
22nd
Pete Johnstone Organ Trio
We’re thrilled to welcome one of the exalted names of Scottish Jazz to Whighams this evening. In jazz circles, Pete Johnstone has set the benchmark for truly dazzling keyboard work – whether on piano or organ. An erstwhile member of the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and an outstanding arranger/composer – he has so much talent in his locker, we know you will be in awe of Pete – tonight playing organ – and his fellow musicians who are equally as feted on the Scottish Jazz Scene – Kevin MacKenzie (guitar) and Doug Hough (drums). Do Not Miss This!!
29th
Kimberley Archibald & her Trio
Kimberely is another young jazz musician showing so much maturity in her tenor sax/flute playing together with her enticing vocals, that its hard to believe she’s only emerged a handful of years ago, named as ‘Rising Star’ in the Scottish Jazz Awards. Tonight – catch her with her stellar band for an evening of Songbook classics and much, much more.
