Liz Dicks and her Quartet

Liz has been ‘part of the furniture’ at Whighams’ Jazz Club since we started way back in 2009. Tonight, she delves into her musical archive to bring us songs from across the decades, with a particular focus on the early years of jazz, from the ’20s to the ’40s.
She has a top quartet with her, too, so expect an evening of great music and possibly a few guests along the way!

Nicole Johänntgen and her Trio

This evening, we’re delighted to welcome award-winning German alto saxophonist Nicole Johänntgen and her trio to Whighams.
Now based in Switzerland, Nicole has received no fewer than nine European awards for her performances and compositions. She cites Cannonball Adderley, John Coltrane and Dexter Gordon among her main influences.
During her time in the US, she studied under the great saxophonist, composer and arranger Dave Liebman. With a pedigree like that, we’re thrilled to welcome her to Edinburgh for what promises to be a fantastic evening of jazz.

Zöe Gilby and her Trio

It’s been quite a while since we last had Zoë visit us, so we’re delighted to welcome her back!
A former winner of the Best Vocalist of the Year category at the UK Parliamentary Jazz Awards, Zoë has released a clutch of fantastic albums in recent years and has been busy touring the UK, performing at some of the most illustrious jazz venues in the land. And that’s one of the reasons we’re so pleased to have her with us this evening!
She’ll be joined by Campbell Normand on piano, Ed Kelly on double bass and Jim Drummond on drums. It’s shaping up to be a wonderful evening of live jazz!

The Morris-Moran-Horn Trio

The accent is very firmly on youth this evening! Three young jazz musicians who took their first tentative steps into performance just two years ago have already earned their spurs at Edinburgh’s Jazz Bar and Pianodrome. We think they’ve more than earned the opportunity to dazzle us with their playing.
Tonight, we present Thomas Morris (piano/keyboard), Theo Moran (bass) and Finlay Horn (drums), performing a varied repertoire of jazz standards, modern tunes and original compositions, inspired by greats such as Bill Evans, Bud Powell and Esbjörn Svensson.
