Sunday Jazz at Whighams
Our famed jazz club was started back in March 2009 by two friends – local jazz musician Kevin Dorrian and jazz enthusiast Graeme Knox, regularly welcoming a crowd that reaches well into three figures every week. It has become one of the leading weekly jazz club’s in the UK – continually attracting some of the biggest names in jazz from around Scotland, the rest of the UK and Internationally. We’ve featured a raft of styles from the ‘Golden Age’ jazz of the early 20th century, Dixieland, Gypsy Jazz, West Coast, Be-Bop and of course some fantastic re-workings of The Great American Songbook.
A £5 cover charge per person is applicable for Jazz performances. This insures we can continue to support live music on a weekly basis.
All times 7-9:15 unless otherwise stated.

Exquisite timing, great phrasing, and a great sense of swing. She is joined tonight by a stellar group of musicians – Sam Parkinson (guitar) and from Denmark – Kenneth Dahl Knudsen (double bass), Jimmy Nyborg (trumpet) and Oleksandr Kolosii (tenor sax)
14th
Karl Clews Trio
From Galway, Ireland, bassist and composer Karl Clews uses the bass guitar as a ‘lead’ instrument. Inspired by the likes of global bass maestros Stanley Clarke and Marcus Miller, he already has three critically-acclaimed albums under his belt with the focus being predominately on jazz and fusion. His solo bass work is enthralling and the uniqueness of this trio – featuring saxophonist Bertrand Huvé and drummer Richie Dittrich, will be well worth catching this evening.
21st
Ali Affleck
Scotland’s First Lady of vintage jazz makes a welcomed return to Whighams. It’s 16 years since she first appeared in the old cellars having not long stepped off a plane from the USA. Since then, she has become a fixture at jazz festivals around the world and has curated a show in which she not only vocalises her ‘Old School New Orleans’ – style music but delves into the origins and history of this great jazz genre. She’s also a past winner and regular finalist of the Scottish Jazz Awards’ Jazz Vocalist of the Year Awards. Tonight’s performance will also feature Parisian guitarist Lorenzo Cortes.
