May

All times 7-9:15 unless otherwise stated.

12th – The Singer’s Showcase – hosted by Liz Dicks (5:30pm-7:30pm)

12th – Sally McGreevy + Her Trio (8pm-10:15pm) – Sally is one of Whighams Jazz Clubs ‘stalwarts’ – A bewitching and beguiling singer equally at home with an American Songbook standard, or honing-in on one of her favourite female singers to make a showcase of a particular body of work. Sally has immense style and we’re so delighted to welcome her back this evening with her Trio.

19th – Keith Haldane Quartet – Keith is a dynamic drummer and very much -in-demand around these parts as the ‘anchor leg’ of the rhythm section. For several years, he was the drummer-in-residence at the late lamented Jazz Bar’s Tuesday evening jam sessions and tonight he strikes out on his own, playing some exemplary bop jazz, with his quartet featuring Gary Laidlaw on guitar.

26th – David Series Quartet – Local guitarist David Series has been a pioneering force on the Scottish Jazz Scene for several years and his seminal album ‘Meerkat Parade’ was met with huge critical acclaim, not just here in Scotland, but across the UK and Europe as well. He’s a wonderfully, lyrical guitarist as he will demonstrate this evening with his quartet. One not to be missed!

2nd – Jazz Jam and Open Mic Night – Our hugely popular monthly jazz jam and open mic gives an opportunity for any instrumentalist or singer to come and perform with the house trio. Tonight, will be no exception. The accent is on fun and getting a chance to show what you can do.

9th – The Singer’s Showcase – hosted by Liz Dicks (5:30pm-7:30pm)

9th – Marjory Morrow and her Trio (8pm-10:15pm)- Marjory has been singing at our Jam/Open Mic nights for a couple of years and, following a well-beaten path, where we give a showcase opportunity to some of our outstanding emerging talent, Marjory will take to the Whighams stage tonight in her own right and how well deserved it is! She’s a powerhouse performer with superb vocal control and a panache for the unexpected. Tonight, she is back by a superb quartet. Just come and be blown away, by this lady’s fabulous voice.

16th – Colin Steele /Stewart Forbes Quintet – The summit of all summits!!! Two titans of the Scottish Jazz Scene Colin Steele (trumpet) and Stewart Forbes (alto) come together in what will be a memorable occasion. Expect a lively evening of phenomenal jazz ‘fire-works’, and musical jousts a-plenty!– these two brilliant frontmen will be backed by an outstanding trio. Put this one in your diary!!

23rd – Lorna Reid and her Trio – It’s been a while since we’ve had vocalist Lorna performing at Whighams Jazz Club, but it’s been well worth the wait, given her busy schedule. A new album is in the offing and her excellent command of conveying a rich tapestry of Great American Songbook classics has helped project Lorna into one of the most in-demand singers on the Scottish Jazz scene. We welcome her back with her great quartet this evening which will feature Campbell Normand (piano) and Neil Warden (guitar)

30th – Elaine Crighton and her Trio – Another Whighams favourite. Originally hailing from the north-east, but now firmly resident in the capital, Elaine has an energetic approach to her music and brings some novel arrangements to her body of work which has a great emphasis on the Great American Songbook. This will be a real treat and  with a top-line quartet featuring  Neil Birse on piano, you are in for an amazing evening.
